Saint Vincent de Paul Society Christmas Hampers - 15 December 2016

Saint Vincent de Paul Society Christmas Hampers 2016

Well done to our Parish schools, Delany College and Holy Trinity Primary, and our own Trinitarians on putting together these Christmas hampers. It is through their generosity that many disadvantaged families in the Granville area can be supported this Christmas season. We are particularly appreciative of the many parishioners who volunteered their time to transport these hampers to the families.

Friendship Group Bus Tour to the Blue Mountains – 8 November 2016

Blue Mountains Bus Trip

Our trip was billed as a "Mystery and Eccentricity Tour" of the Blue Mountains.

At our morning tea stop at Glenwood we picked up our tour guide. He gave us a few local stories of events in the early days that happened in the very place that is now the park. These were stories of dirty deeds by not very nice people!

We then proceeded up the mountains and the guide filled us in on stories of the places we went through. Most of the locations were away from the main highway, passing along the original route that the first explorers took in some cases.

The chosen route took us through many areas of beautiful houses and gardens, rich in springtime colours.

Blackheath was the turnaround place on our travels and it was here that we visited Govett's Leap lookout.

The weather, though overcast, was kind to us and the view of the Grose Valley and waterfall was excellent.

The tour then began the homeward journey, stopping at the Blue Mountains Hotel at Lawson for a leisurely lunch, arriving back at MacKillop Hall around five. A good day was had by all!

Party At The Parish - Saturday 12 August

Corpus Christi Procession 2016

The inaugural "Party at the Parish" was held on Saturday 12 August in the MacKillop Hall after the Vigil Mass in honour of the feast of the Assumption of Mary.

A big thank you goes to all the performers: to Joshua and Andrew on the Lebanese Drums; to Maria, Chloe and Maryanne who contributed solo songs to the event; to The Holy Trinity Choir; to Andria who performed a Traditional South Indian Cultural Dance; and, finally, to Seinie and Pauline who wrapped the night up with their traditional Tongan Happy Dance.

We also extend a thank you to the ladies who put the night together: Pauline, Paulette, Prahba and Sujata.

Thank you to all our parishioners who joined us on the night!

Friendship Group Wollongong Bus Trip - 10 May 2016

Wollongong Bus Trip

Our first stop was at the Wollondilly Shire Botanical Garden in Picton, where we had morning tea to the sound of raucous ducks!

Our next stop was time spent in the beautiful sunshine at the Wollongong Botanic Garden, then on to one of the Wollongong clubs for a yummy "all-you-can-eat" lunch.

After lunch we toured various spots down to Port Kembla. One highlight was the visit to Hill 60, an old coastal defence site that is now an excellent viewing place and a take-off point for hang gliding.

Our journey home was via the coast road to Stanwell Park then on to home.

Great day and a lot of fun!

John Portelli: Twentieth Anniversary as Parish Organist

John Portelli

At the Mass of the First Sunday of Lent, John Portelli was honoured for his role as organist for the past twenty years. It is a role he started at the young age of eleven.

On his becoming an organist, John has said: "When I first started taking piano lessons, Father Campion was understandably a little doubtful when a six year old boy told him that he would one day play for him in his church but when that day came not too long after, I was so happy when Father started a round of applause in the church and expressed his pride in me and gratitude – something I will never forget".

John has now been appointed as Director of Music by Father Andrew. In this role, John will be responsible for the continued development of music in the parish by working with the choir and the musicians.
